Major Quran Teaching Movement Underway in Algeria

IQNA – Algeria’s minister of religious affairs and Awqaf said a major movement in Quranic education and Quranic activities is underway in the country.

Youssef Belmehdi made the remark while addressing the opening ceremony of Algeria’s 4th national competition on Quran memorization and Tafsir (interpretation) and the 20th edition of the Quran memorization contest for children, al-Misa website reported.

He added that the Quranic movement is in progress and includes organizing gatherings of Quran memorizers in mosques throughout the year, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.

He also said that the Quran memorization contest for kids, which has been organized for two decades, is aimed at encouraging children to learn the Quran by heart and identify the country’s Quranic talents.

Belmehdi said the Quranic activities also aim to preserve the country’s Islamic heritage, which forms the basis of Algeria’s power and its moderate approach.
